HONG KONG, Feb. 26, 2001 — One of the world's most experienced Internet
professionals has joined Hong Kong-based emaimai (www.emaimai.com) as its Chief Executive
Officer. World renowned speaker and author Tony Surtees has taken on the
top job at the fast growing technology solutions provider to create a new
business team of m-commerce pioneers in the emerging Asian market.
Prior to this appointment, Surtees was Executive Vice President and
General Manager of Global e-Commerce for Yahoo!'s e-Commerce group, at
their Santa Clara headquarters. His reputation as a leading authority on
e-commerce is well-earned. Best-selling author and entrepreneur Seth Godin
once described him as "one of the most brilliant marketers on the scene
today." And it's for these reasons that emaimai's Chairman, Moshe Malamud,
wanted Surtees at the helm.
"Tony brings an incredibly impressive track record to emaimai," said
Malamud. "With more than 15 years of industry experience, Tony is the
ideal professional to lead emaimai through this exciting new phase. I am
extremely confident that Tony, and the experienced team he joins at
emaimai, will produce great results."
Surtees and his emaimai team are developing wireless m-commerce
solutions which have wide-ranging benefits for consumers as well as
merchants. This class of revolutionary solutions have a significant effect
on how business transactions are conducted throughout Asia.
emaimai is one of the few companies actively working in areas that
comprise nearly half of Red Herring's "Top ten trends of 2001", including
the one that indicates that Asia will be the hottest market for wireless
and m-commerce growth.
"The potential for developing m-commerce in the Asian market is huge,"
said Surtees. "The convergence of the e-commerce and m-commerce markets is
unprecedented and was one of the driving factors in my decision to join
emaimai's Hong Kong office. It's an exciting and compelling market which I
believe is ready for the unique solutions we are currently in the process
of developing."
The emaimai team under Surtees' leadership brings extensive global
technology experience from companies that include IBM, Microsoft, Apple,
Ericsson, Qualcomm, AT&T, Citibank and chinadotcom. In addition to his
tenure at Yahoo!, Australian-born Surtees spent four years designing,
developing and funding an e-commerce application for online bill
presentment. Prior to that, he founded ITN Telecommunications, a B2B
telecommunications organisation that specialised as a fax provider in
Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.
A critically acclaimed author, Surtees is a frequent key speaker at
industry seminars around the globe.
